Saucy Walker
Saucy Walkers were manufactured by Ideal in the 1950s and early 1960s. They came in hard plastic, vinyl, and blow molded plastic and came in a whole range of sizes from 16" to Patti Play Pal size.
This is the story of two Saucy Walkers. My sister came across the first doll at a local antique mall several years ago. She is 28" tall and came with original clothing. Unfortunately, here vinyl parts have discolored over the years, giving her a well tanned appearance. The second doll she found lying on the floor of a local thrift shop. This doll is 32" tall and all its body parts were hanging limp. Someone had tried to restring it (unsuccessfully) using household rubber bands. Some of this doll's clothing is original. We needed to refer to the 28" doll's internal stringing to figure out how to fix the 32" doll.
The 32" doll was referred to as the "Super Saucy Walker" or the "Play Pal Saucy Walker". She was advertised on TV for $29.95. The Sears Christmas Wish Book listed her for $21.88 in 1960. The 28" doll cost $24.95 as seen on TV and $18.88 through the Sears Wish Book.
